Jory John’s Bad Seed series meets After the Fall by Dan Santat in this charming picture book about a young acorn’s grand adventure and the incredible transformation that follows. Acorn is a little wild, and from his oak tree perch, he longs for adventure. When he’s the first of his friends to jump off the oak tree, he’s on his way into the wide world, full of new experiences that fill his little heart with excitement! But when a squirrel buries Acorn deep underground, the thrill-seeking Acorn finds himself forced to stay still, in the darkness, for a long time. To turn this biggest setback into a wild adventure, Acorn may have to change from the inside out.

Anytime I've read this in the classroom, students are always laughing and have been able to make great predictions of what will happen to acorn next. I love reading this story when it becomes fall.

This is a very heartwarming story of an adventurous acorn who falls from an oak tree and goes on a long journey. There's hilarious scenes written throughout and children will love laughing at the pictures. Perfect story for a read-aloud.

He was the first of his generation to jump off the tree. “Don't do that,“ said Oak. “The squirrels will get you.“ “I don't care about squirrels,“ said Acorn. “I just want to ROLL.“

At the very beginning of the story when Acorn knew he wasn't meant to stay on the tree his whole life so he took it upon himself to leave the tree at once and explore the world himself.

Pickpick

This book is about a little acorn who wants to explore the world around him and not just live in a tree his whole life. The acorn goes on this wild adventure and meets many different animals. The illustrations in the book are more clip art than sketches in other books. The colors of the illustrations take up the whole page to let the reader know what is going on during this part of the story.
