The Far Side of the World (Vol. Book 10) (Aubrey/Maturin Novels)
The Far Side of the World (Vol. Book 10) (Aubrey/Maturin Novels) | Patrick O'Brian
4 posts | 19 read | 9 to read
The inspiration for the major new motion picture starring Russell Crowe. The war of 1812 continues, and Jack Aubrey sets course for Cape Horn on a mission after his own heart: intercepting a powerful American frigate outward bound to play havoc with the British whaling trade. Stephen Maturin has fish of his own to fry in the world of secret intelligence. Disaster in various guises awaits them in the Great South Sea and in the far reaches of the Pacific: typhoons, castaways, shipwrecks, murder, and criminal insanity.

Book number TEN of the Aubrey/Maturin series. Which this title is used for the MOVIE that starred Russell Crowe.

Ruthiella I wish that movie had been more successful! It was so well cast and i‘d‘ve liked to have seen more adaptations with Crowe and Bettany. 14mo
Bklover I remember that movie! I have a friend who reads that whole series every few years. 14mo
CrowCAH @Ruthiella agree on both accounts!!! 13mo
CrowCAH @Bklover that‘s a huge commitment to read all of them! I‘m slowly making my way through them. 13mo

If you like solid history and a rousing story, this is for you. Hornblower redone with better history and amusing writing. Read one and you will want them all.

Some of the best historical fiction ever written. Aubrey-Maturin may be even more fun to read about than Holmes-Watson. I've been reading two a year and am now exactly halfway through the series. #2015top5
