Terrific first-person memoir about a young man who survives cancer. Really good read - I will add to my classroom library. I really like that it‘s a male perspective - not enough books boys can relate to!

New books from the most recent book haul!

thebookishtype15 I really liked The Lying Game and The Rosie Project 6y
Newfoundlilac @thebookishtype15 I haven‘t gotten around to reading either of those ones yet. I‘m currently finishing up It‘s Kind of a Funny Story. Should I read The Lying Game or The Rosie Project after I‘m done? 6y
thebookishtype15 Ooh I guess it depends on what kind of mood you're in since they're both so different but I'd say The Rosie Project. I liked it a bit more and it's a fun quick read 6y
Newfoundlilac @thebookishtype15 I‘ve heard so many good things about both of them! I was leaning a little more towards The Rosie Project since the book I‘m reading now is a little sad, I could use a pick me up haha 6y
thebookishtype15 @Newfoundlilac that was why I was kind of leaning toward that. I haven't read Its kind of a funny story for years now but I did remember it was a little darker in topics so The Rosie Project will be a great pick me up. 6y

This one is still on my TBR. Rufus' memoir of punk rock & a cancer diagnosis as a teenager sounds intriguing.

BarbaraBB Oh Wow, don‘t know this one but it sounds tough! 7y

A memoir from a cancer survivor/punk rock drummer. Rob writes candidly about his battle with cancer and its effect on every aspect of his life. His account is raw and sad, angry and hopeful.

Arrived 4 hours early to the airport and my flight is already delayed 20 minutes. So the bookworm in me panicked - what if I read the two books with me? So I bought another book :) Crisis averted!

Rob Rufus has music in his veins. He's determined to devote his life to it when a cancer diagnosis derails everything just as his band is being discovered. This was an amazing story of music, the joys of being a teenager, brotherhood, and overcoming the odds. (Also this helped me discover a new-to-me band, which is always awesome.)

Waiting for the hurricane to arrive and not sure what to read... 🤔

dizzymissruby I'm saving that Hamilton one for last! 9y
charminggoats @dizzymissruby I was debating doing the same, but it's already out now and I know some people reading it at the moment. :O I'm working on a series now and think I'll ready Hillary Clinton's book next before the election, but The Hamilton Affair might be next after that. 9y

4/5 ⭐️ Really loved this ode to punk rock music. Rufus' memoir takes us on his journey to discovering punk rock, learning the drums, getting his band rolling...only to discover that he has cancer. Can't play the drums when your chemo wrecked body is throwing up all the time. I found this read surprisingly compelling, inspiring, and a straightforward and honest look at cancer.

RanaElizabeth This looks really intriguing. 9y
