-The fantastic narration made this story.
-It was told in a format that works for me.
-It feels, at first, like it‘s headed in an uninteresting direction and then bam, the tension is ramped up.
-I thought it would be overtly moralizing but it wasn‘t all that bad…not to the degree I thought it might be.

Listened to this one on audio, and I feel that helped - multi cast recording. I feel this is an example of a fictional book trying so hard to make a point/deliver a message (about societies obsession with true crime) that the story was lost. I was not invested in the missing person and was left with "meh" at the end.

Although this is a novel, it calls itself a true crime story. The premise is that a 16 year old girl goes missing and a reality show producer swoops into town to cover the story. It‘s all too plausible that this could happen and how it affects the townspeople and the investigation rings true. Lots of twists in the story and tragedy too. If you read true crime, you might like this. Very telling about human nature.

Inspired by the popularity of the genre & endless fascination that people seem to have with true crime, & the emotional manipulation of people behind the scenes to create drama & make people want to tune in. The narrative takes the form of transcripts of interviews with those involved in the case for a book about the TV show, & these are cut into short paragraphs from multiple points of view per chapter.
