This month I have had negative time for reading, so an hour into Poppy War, I had to bail. I‘m just not a fantasy person, and I can‘t power through with so little time to read.

Where You End was good. Even though I figured out the twist early on, I was invested in finding out more about the sisters.

Kat awakens from a coma with severe memory loss. Slowly she realizes her twin sister is lying about parts of their past. But why?

This book got bad reviews, but I rated it 4.5⭐️s. I don't normally buy into amnesia stories, but the twin element and the cult factor made the book interesting enough for me to just go with it. The book was weird and mysterious. Those are facets I like on a novel.

All memories lost
Cat doesn't know who to trust
But she'll find out fast...
⭐️⭐️⭐️⚡️

I found this absolutely unhinged. It's a good story if you're into the world of cults and brainwashing. I'm not sure why, but I find cults fascinating. I don't know if I wish I could be duped myself as a way to escape reality, or I just find it wild that ppl can be so easily influenced by others. Either way, this was a good read.

I‘m often confused by what constitutes a mystery vs a thriller. Reading this, I‘d call it a mystery since most thrills being past tense. It was a slow yet intriguing unraveling of a concussed twin‘s rediscovery of her life via the bits of information correctly or incorrectly fed to her by her mirror twin. Slow pick, but a pick.

I‘m a total sucker for all the elements of this fast-paced thriller— identical twins, memory loss, a cult! It combines all the greatest elements of my favorite Sweet Valley High books into one! Kat wakes up in 1983 with no memory of herself, she does recognize Jude, her mirror twin. But it‘s soon clear that the past Jude reveals may not be the full truth. Multiple perspectives and dual timelines keep this moving quickly from start to finish!

“Where You End is haunting, suspenseful and beautifully written—a modern-day gothic that explores the peculiar bond between twin sisters and the twisted power of cults; the mysteries of memory and the ineluctable pull of the past. It unnerves and beguiles in ways reminiscent of Donna Tartt‘s The Secret History and David Lynch‘s “Twin Peaks”—but it‘s a true original.”

Book 1 of 2024 and I‘m afraid it was not a winner for me. This book had all the aspects that would typically hook me and not let me stop reading and yet I found myself distracted throughout this book. Overall, an ok revenge tale, but not one that will stay with me. 2.5 ⭐️
Thanks to Henry Holt Books and NetGalley for this ARC in return for my honest review. #arc #netgalley

Kat wakes up from a coma w/amnesia. The only thing she remembers is her twin, Jude. Jude &her sis escaped from a cult &while she has to relive that trauma, she does what she can to prevent Kat from having to. Jude‘s chapters are told in the past, &as the details come to light, you can see why she wanted to keep it from Kat. However, since we get the present (1983) told from Kat‘s POV, you will also begin to question what is the truth along w/Kat.
