The Devil Wears Prada meets The Assistants in this compulsively readable debut following a young woman who takes a job working for an enigmatic influencer and quickly discovers theres a dark side to being a #GirlBoss. After a series of go-nowhere jobs in the New York publishing world, Harper Cruz is broke, lonely, and desperate for a salary that wont leave her scrambling to make rent each month. So when she stumbles across a job posting from an influencer offering triple her last paycheck, she automatically submits her rsum. Harper may not be familiar with self-help guru Charlotte Green, but her relentless optimism and charismatic can-do spirit has created a cult-like following of women across the country. When she selects Harper among thousands of other applicants in less than twenty-four hours, its obvious she sees something she likes. Despite the pressure to accept the offer just as quickly as shes been given it, Harper decides to take a leap of faith and become the newest member of The Greenhouse. Accepting the job means a move to Nashville, and Harper is quickly dazzled by the glamourous world Charlotte has built in Music City. The Greenhouse is more than a workplaceits a familyand Harper soon finds herself swept into its inner circle. At first, she loves working in such an inspirational environment, where mandatory dance parties, daily intentions, and group bonding activities make up for long hours and Charlottes persistent demands for loyalty. But the deeper Harper is pulled into Charlottes world, the more she realizes that having it all and being it all comes with a price.

A low-stakes novel about a woman who falls into working for a toxic influencer. Based on the author‘s real-life experiences. I had a couple issues with the plot and pacing, but mostly thought it was pretty enjoyable.

Any easy read and for some reason I stuck with it even though it was totally predictable and pretty lame.

An easy read that really leans into all of the influencer/self-help/self-care tropes - full of fun drama.

Bailedbailed

Can we just stop with the books about 20somes with toxic bosses in fashion or influencing? These characters, which are uninteresting caricatures, put this from satire to ridiculous pretty quickly. We‘ve had Miranda Priestly. If you can‘t do better than her, I‘m going to bail. I stuck around a bit because this is set in Nashville, but I realized pretty quickly that the author had only been there for a bachelorette party. 👎🏻👎🏻

BarbaraBB Won‘t read it but had to laugh about your review! So good 🤣😘 12mo

#libraryhaul and first frost of the Fall!

I went to pick up my holds, Under the Influence and Run Time, and went upstairs to pick up the Rash from the backlist shelves and three more books just leapt into my library bag…funny how that seems to happen…🤔🤣🤣

Thanks @jlhammar for the Rash rec!

Dad starts treatment for bladder cancer today, so I was glad to take a moment for myself yesterday. We caught it early! 🙏🏻

Scochrane26 Hope your dad heals quickly! I have a client whose mother was dealing with bladder cancer and is well now. 13mo
AmyG May treatment go exactly as planned for your Dad and may it be easy on him. 13mo

jlhammar Hope you enjoy it as much as I did! I have the audiobook for Run Time among my loans currently (haven't started it yet) and just bought the Krug last week - can't wait to dive in. Sorry to hear about your Dad. Hope treatment goes well. 13mo
Ruthiella Wishing the best possible outcome for your dad. ❤️ 13mo

Megabooks @Scochrane26 I‘m so happy for her! 🙏🏻 my dad has a good outcome, too. Thank you! 12mo
Megabooks @jlhammar well, we‘re reading a lot of the same books now (no surprise)! I hope you enjoy the new Rash, and thanks for your rec over there! I appreciate the good wishes for my dad, too. 12mo
Megabooks @AmyG @Bookwormjillk @Ruthiella @zuzia thanks so much! 💜💜 Dad‘s first treatment went really well, so I‘m hopeful we have a system in place that makes all the subsequent go smoothly, too. We‘ve hired a person to come and help him in the afternoon after each treatment. She is SO KIND but VERY EXTROVERTED. So the first thing we all did after she left was sleep because we‘re all on the introverted side. 🤣🤣 But we so appreciated her help! 12mo
BarbaraBB Thanks for this update. So glad it went well and that you have help now. I can see it‘s tiresome though, someone who keeps on talking 😀😀 12mo
AmyG Ah, glad it went well. Godspeed on the extroverted helper. I so get it. 12mo
Megabooks @BarbaraBB I will write you back soon!! I am so happy about your mother‘s situation! Still recovering from yesterday. 😂😂 12mo
Megabooks @AmyG thanks! I‘m hoping she‘ll chill a bit now that she knows us. 🤞🏻🤞🏻 12mo
Suet624 Best wishes to your dad. It‘s great you caught it early. I had to laugh as you explained about having to take a nap after the helper left. Totally get it. 12mo
Megabooks @Suet624 thank you! I appreciate her expertise and kindness, but LORDY it was overwhelming! Between that and dealing with my dad‘s first treatment and those unknowns and my mom‘s catastrophizing, i was still exhausted today. 🤦🏻‍♀️ Fortunately, dad is not having ill effects yet. 🙏🏻 12mo
Centique Best wishes for your Dad Meg 💕 I am so glad they caught it early. Hope the side effects are not too harsh xxx 12mo

Made it home and I‘m 16 chapters in and y‘all, this book is wiiiiiild. I find the influencer world fascinating in a “it‘s a train wreck but I can‘t look away” kind of way and this is really scratching my itch. Time to keep tearing through it while my roommates watch F1 in the background.
