Rubicon | J S Dewes
3 posts | 3 read | 2 to read
J. S. Dewes, author of The Last Watch and The Exiled Fleet, returns with another science fiction space opera, Rubicon, that melds elements of Scalzi's Old Man's War with Edge of Tomorrow. Sergeant Adriene Valero wants to die. She can't. After enduring a traumatic resurrection for the ninety-sixth time, Valero is reassigned to a special forces unit and outfitted with a cutting-edge virtual intelligence aid. They could turn the tide in the war against intelligent machines dedicated to the assimilation, or destruction, of humanity. When her VI suddenly achieves sentience, Valero is drawn into the machinations of an enigmatic major who's hell-bent on ending the war--by any means necessary. Adrianne has resurrected or rezoned ninety six times. She is now equipped with a new VI that knows her every thought and feeling. Her officer wants to use her to aid in the war between machine and humanity.

This was interesting take as to how AI could help or hurt us in the future. I would recommend this to those who enjoy action in their science fiction with little to no romance.

🎧 I want more Adrienne & Rubicon! I loved these characters. I enjoyed their slight sarcasm & snark!

Adrienne‘s in military service & been killed & brought back 96 times (this was reminiscent of Mickey 7 & I loved that audiobook). Adrienne doesn‘t want a 97th life when she‘s transferred to a specialty unit & gets all sorts of new tech plus an AI called Rubicon! She‘s a never-give-up badass out for truth.

I want more! YES!
