Hmm, on paper everything about this was my sort of book. A close knit family, secrets slowly emerging… Yet something was just a bit off about it. I never quite felt absorbed by the characters, and actively disliked matriarch Margo; I just could not get past her constant self-absorption and didn‘t buy into the great Richard-Margo love affair that the entire story centres around. It‘s readable but forgettable I‘m afraid…

A fantastic story, Margaret and Richard are involved in a passionate love affair. Then he walks out leaving Margo and their three daughters. The three daughters Rachel, Imogen and Sasha all have their problems which seem linked to their mother and father. It's brilliant and evocative.

I love an engrossing family drama. Bibliolifestyle & Avon Books generously provided me a copy of 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐭𝐭 𝐆𝐢𝐫𝐥𝐬, 𝐆𝐞𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐚 𝐌𝐨𝐨𝐫𝐞's debut novel. I'm anxious to soak up some sun by the pool while I immerse myself in the struggles & journeys of the 3 daughters upon whom the story is focused. What will they learn? And what will 𝘐 learn by reading about their experiences? Stay tuned for my review.

This novel asks you if you can ever be free of the mistakes your parents made.

This is a debut novel centered on three grown sisters (Rachel, Imogen and Sasha) and their complicated relationships with their free-spirited mother (Margo). Taking place at their childhood home on the Island of Wight, it‘s a look at all the complications and messiness of family and its secrets. Richard and Margo were an epic love story that gradually disintegrated following Richard‘s downward spiral. He abruptly left the family with no ⬇️

As the girls grow up, Margo becomes both a source of comfort and strife as she loves fiercely but also controls in equal measure. Each has her own issues with their mother (and absent father) as well as their own life dilemmas to work through before they can be free to move ⬇️ 2y

I had a love/hate relationship with this book. The writing was fine. The plot (with some childhood snippets), while a bit thin in parts, was fine. The characters however…I didn‘t connect/particularly like any of them. And perhaps that was the point? But at times I became so frustrated and annoyed at the back and forth of their love/hate that I felt mentally exhausted and dreaded reading further. Margo was too⬇️

robinb domineering and immature for her 59 years, and her daughters too obsessed with her, seeking her approval and detesting her, often in the same paragraph. In the end, I‘m just ambivalent about the book. Not all bad but not great either. 3.5/5⭐️ (edited) 2y

Looking forward to reading this debut which is set on the island I live on, before attending an event with the author early next month. I have high hopes for this one.
