Ana María and the Fox
Ana María and the Fox | Liana De la Rosa
6 posts | 4 read | 1 to read
A forbidden love between a Mexican heiress and a shrewd British politician makes for a tantalizing Victorian season. Ana María Luna Valdés has strived to be the perfect daughter, the perfect niece, and the perfect representative of the powerful Luna family. So when Ana María is secretly sent to London with her sisters to seek refuge from the French occupation of Mexico, she experiences her first taste of freedom far from the judgmental eyes of her domineering father. If only she could ignore the piercing looks she receives across ballroom floors from the austere Mr. Fox. Gideon Fox elevated himself from the London gutters by chasing his burning desire for more: more opportunities, more choices. For everyone. Now, as a member of Parliament, Gideon is on the cusp of securing the votes he needs to put forth a measure to abolish the Atlantic slave trade once and for all--a cause that is close to his heart as the grandson of a formerly enslaved woman. The charmingly vexing Ana María is a distraction he must ignore. But when Ana María finds herself in the crosshairs of a nefarious nobleman with his own political agenda, Gideon knows he must offer his hand as protection . . . but will this Mexican heiress win his heart as well?

Pickpick

Swept me away with the story of forbidden love between two unlikely people. I absolutely loved this story! From the Mexican heiress' struggles between family expectations and her own desires, to the shrewd British politician's aspiration to break free and effect change, the romantic tension between these two keeps you reading!
I can‘t wait to read the next adventure with the other Luna sister…Isabel and the Rogue.

marleed Oh, I‘m glad this worked for you. I didn‘t for me but I‘m fascinated to read reading opinions and experiences that differ from my own. It also helps me realize what a mood reader I am! 2y
Zbayardo @marleed it‘s also a reminder that reading is subjective! Something I try to teach my students all the time. 2y

There‘s history here I‘m intrigued by (Mexicans immigrating to 1800s England to escape French forces), but nothing about this story drew me in. I was bored by the romance between Ana Maria and Gideon. Neither did the HF work for me. I thought the Luna sisters were embolden with too many 21st century perspectives and I didn‘t find them to be realistic as 1863 Mexican refugees in England. I‘ll skip the books for the two younger sisters.

Gabbymags123 Wow good to know…. It‘s disappointing when you invest time in a book and not so great…. But finish it anyway been there done that!! 2y
marleed @Gabbymags123 I can‘t imagine the effort and editing it must take to embue bad-ass characters set in the past with ahead-of-their-time beliefs but still reasonable to the mores of the day. Ie: I don‘t buy that a woman seeking refuge from Mexico to England in the 1800s would be insulted and call out the English for expecting her to speak their language. I respect her point - just wrong century. 2y
Gabbymags123 I get it and sorry just discovered this area lol not too savy on comp stuff 5mo
