March 2025 read in less than a week!! Great read enjoyable!!
I‘m glad I stuck with this one. There were so many different storylines at the beginning and it got a bit confusing listening to it. But, Scottoline brought them all together beautifully & Ballerini did a great job on the narration. Another well written historical fiction book.

Scottoline introduces so many story lines in the first part of this novel that I almost bailed. She finally starts to bring them together in Part Two. Part Three includes so many pat story line resolutions that I just started to skim. Set in 19th century Sicily, purportedly giving us the origin of the Mafia, but the author throws so many balls into the air the story is lost. I finished this; still not sure why. It‘s like a really long comic book.
I don‘t usually read a lot of historical fiction but I will read anything that Lisa Scottoline writes. I‘ve enjoyed every one of her books that I‘ve read and this one had me sucked in from the first page.
Until I got to the notes at the end of this one, I never gave thought to it being HF and the history that was distinct from the fiction. I just enjoyed the story. Having a read a stack of books where this author and her daughter celebrate their Italian heritage, I read thinking about how much fun Lisa must have had with the process writing this Italian story. This is her new release and she was in Italy with HF for her last book, as well.
