Evidence that an aristocrat has gone missingand was possibly murderednear Sandringham House sets Queen Elizabeth II on the path to discover unsavory family secrets and much more in this new installment of the series the New York Times Book Review calls sheer entertainment. Queen Elizabeth II is looking forward to a traditional Christmas gathering with her family in Sandringham when a shocking discovery interrupts holiday plans. A severed hand has been foundbut even more unsettling, she recognizes the signet ring still attached to a finger. It belongs to a scion of the St Cyr family, her old friends from nearby Ladybridge Hall. Despite the personal connection, the Queen wants to leave the investigation to the policethat is, until newspapers drag her name into the matter. As reporters speculate about the proximity of the crime to the Crown and the police fail to investigate a suspicious accident on her doorstep, Elizabeth quietly begins to mull over the mystery herself. With help from her Assistant Private Secretary, Rozie Oshodi, she delves into the interlocking layers of fact and fiction surrounding the high-profile case. Someone in the quiet county of Norfolk seems to have a secret worth killing for, and the Queen is determined to find out who and what that iseven if that means discovering that someone in her close circle is a murderer.

I‘m really enjoying this series - Rozie is great and there‘s something delightful about the Queen solving mysteries. Bennett rounds out her cast of characters nicely, this time with a couple of quirky aristocrats and villagers, and constructs a fun little romp of a mystery.

11-8-23: My 94th finished book of 2023! Book 3 in the series about Queen Elizabeth II being a secret sleuth. I‘m this story, the Queen is spending Christmas at Sandringham, her rural retreat, when an old acquaintance and family friend goes missing. With the help of her assistant personal secretary, Rozie, the Queen gets down to the bottom of things when the police don‘t. This series is a nice reminder of the Queen. ⭐️⭐️⭐️📖#️⃣9️⃣4️⃣

Lovely addition to the series; I really enjoy seeing Rozie grow j to the position and it‘s such fun getting (faux) glimpses into the royal household. Additionally, it‘s always such a gentle read that I find it relaxing to meander through the whole mystery.

My reign pizza to pair with my royal book. This series continues to delight me, I hope there are a few more (it‘s 2016 in this story so maybe it‘s possible) maybe Charles can take over 🤷🏻‍♀️ afterwards.

Although I enjoyed this, and it seems as though Bennett is really finding her stride with this series, I do think that I found this a lot less believable than the other two. I know they‘re fiction, but part of the charm was how realistic they felt, and this one just seemed a bit too out there. That said, it‘s clear that she has done her homework and knows so much about the queen‘s life and habits.

Today I am reading in Budapest, this city is amazing. (And the book is very enjoyable so far!)

Mrs_B Also if anyone has any recommendations for things I should do I whilst here then let me know! 2y
JenReadsAlot I really enjoyed that city but it was almost 20 years ago now so don't remember a ton! Enjoy! 2y
IuliaC New York Cafe comes to my mind :) Enjoy your visit! 2y
Libby1 @Mrs_B - go to Memento Park! It‘s a bit outside of the city but you can reach it by bus. After the fall of Communism the government moved all the Soviet era statues to one place. It‘s the oddest time capsule. 2y
