Inventive and detailed world-building make this a fascinating read, although it gets overly complicated at times. Ahilya is the sole archeologist in her society, which is dominated by the architects, who have the power to manipulate plants and keep their floating city in the sky. Her husband Iravan is a senior architect, a secretive position that has created distance between them. A gripping tale of survival, power and a marriage in trouble.

4th bookstore visited for my DC #IndependentBookstoreDay tour!

Solid State Books is a cute little bookshop in the Adam‘s Morgan district. I‘m more than halfway through my list of 6. I left my house at 8:30 this morning, it‘s currently 12:30, & I‘ve walked 4 miles already!

Next up is Second Street Books in Dupont!

Leftcoastzen You are really rocking Indie Bookstore Day! 11mo

This was a dense, fascinating novel and I look forward to the sequel. Rao‘s world building, and the science she created as it‘s foundations are compelling. Classed as fantasy by my Library, it‘s far closer to really good science fiction. Iravan is an architect, able to craft plants into structures. Ahilya, his wife, his antithesis, is an archeologist seeking answers to forbidden questions. They must work together to save their failing world.

TNbookworm I just finished this and really enjoyed it too🙂 2y
