Nineteen-year-old hockey phenom Alexander Price is the youngest-ever captain in the NHL. With a polarizing social media presence and a predilection for dirty play, he typifies the stereotype of young, out-of-control athlete. But away from the cameras, Alex is a kid with an anxiety disorder and the expectations of an expansion franchise on his shoulders. And maybe he tries too hard to fit the part of asshole playboy, but it's better than the alternative; in his line of work, gay is the punchline of an insult, not something he can be. Eighteen-year-old vlogger Elijah Rodriguez is a freshman in college recovering from an injury that derailed his Olympic figure-skating dreams. Mixed-race, disabled, and out of the closet since he was fourteen, Eli is unapologetically himself. He has no qualms about voicing his disapproval of celebrity jocks who make homophobic jokes on Twitter and park their flashy cars in the handicapped spaces outside of ice rinks. After an antagonistic introduction, Alex and Eli's inexplicable friendship both baffles and charms the internet. But navigating relationships is hard enough for normal teenagers. It's a lot harder when the world-much of it disapproving-is watching you fall in love with your best friend.

Still managed 15 books, even though I've had a reading slump, care work to do, and to watch the Olympics 😁 I might keep my reading schedule like this, because it's nice to spend my evenings with other things as well - and hey, 15 books is still a good amount, right? At least my non-reading friends seem to be impressed 😅

AnnCrystal I'm a reader, and I'm impressed 🥳👍. Reading needs to be a fun time, not another chore...and we've got characters in real life that need us to be active in reality 😉💝. 5mo

I somewhere stumbled upon this at some point and it just fitted a challenge prompt, so I went into this without really knowing anything about this book. And yes, at the beginning it has some strong SoG vibes and some things might go to easy, but the characters simply deserve this. Next to the scenes that made my heart overflow, Massey addresses some heavy topics (homophobia, ableism, mental health...). There's also a cute GSD and a lovely cat.

This was so adorable! Knowing that it originated as “Check, Please” fanfic made the little nods to it feel like a scavenger hunt, but it was never so close that I felt like the characters were anyone other than themselves. Alex and Eli are wholly original and work together in the best way. 🩵 I inhaled this book and I am immediately starting the next one!

Super sweet G rated M/M #romantsy about a young NHL star and a struggling figure skater / food vlogger. All the warm and fuzzies I could ask for.
