The Rom-Com Agenda
The Rom-Com Agenda: A Novel | Jayne Denker
8 posts | 5 read | 8 to read
Vibrantly funny, endearingly sweet, and a love letter to all things rom com, Jayne Denker's The Rom Com Agenda is a story of two people finding love right when they least expect it. You know how the story's supposed to go...but love makes its own plans. STEP 1: Find yourself Leah Keegan is used to being alone, especially after taking care of her sick foster mother for the past year. But now theres nothing keeping her in the sweet town of Willow Cove. Its time to move on. Again. STEP 2: Win back the one who got away Eli Masterson thought he and Victoria were meant to be together until she decided to jet off to Rome for a year. Eli is determined to win her back. But how? STEP 3: Become a romantic hero Changing Elis physical appearance is easy, but to turn Eli into the sophisticated-yet-vulnerable ideal man, his girl pals force him to watch classic rom-coms. And take notes. STEP 4: Fall in love? Inadvertently drawn into the makeover scheme, Leah ends up being Elis guide through the wild world of meet-cutes and grand gestures. Even though she believes Eli doesnt need to change a thing about himself. Even though she just might be falling for Eli . . . and Eli falling for her. "The perfect swoony, slow burn, sentimental romantic comedy that we all deserve ." -New York Times bestselling author Jenn McKinlay

Loved the subcharacters. Enjoyed Leah's character way more than Eli's. Haven't read too many characters who have aged out of foster care so that was a refreshing take on not instantly knowing their place in the world. Definitely wouldn't want to do Leah's taxes with so many part-time jobs.

3/5

After Eli is dumped by his girlfriend Victoria who is moving to Italy, his friends and family encourage him to undergo a makeover to become the man of Victoria's dreams. Of course his friends and family don't actually like Victoria, and hope instead something might happen with Leah.I didn't love a lot of the side characters, and I thought the ending was a little rushed, but overall it's a cute read that is clearly paying tribute to rom-coms.

Leah Keegan was positive she was not meant to be a superhero.

Jumping into something softer after reading a bunch of dark murder thrillers. Chose this on impulse simply for the popcorn on the cover. 💖

This may be a case of it‘s me and not the book…

When Eli goes through a devastating breakup, his family and friends decide he needs a makeover to win back his gf. Leah, who happens to work multiple jobs and overhears said breakup, is quickly roped into the shenanigans.

Personally, I have issues with changing oneself to fit the perception of someone…maybe that hits too close to home for me. It just seemed way too over the top. I did love ⬇️⬇️⬇️

Librarybelle ⬆️⬆️⬆️the movie references…it was a good reminder to me of some of the rom coms I love to watch! I think in its own way this book pays homage to these ‘80s and ‘90s films, but it misses the mark. I wasn‘t exactly enamored by any of the characters, either. The voice narration was good - I think that kept me engaged in the book. 2y

Mixed feelings here. Leah Keegan returned to her foster mom‘s home to care for her in her last days. She is living in her home (anticipating her mom‘s son kicking her out) and working for $$ to leave town. Eli Masterson has just had his heart broken and is looking to win her back. His family/friends decide he needs a total makeover (physical, manners, etc.), and Leah helps by selling him a new wardrobe. He is then pushed into watching rom-coms 🔻

robinb to learn how to be a sworn-worthy hero. Eli and Leah become friends and begin hanging out. Will Eli get over Victoria and recognize who‘s right in front of him? Will Leah stop running away and stay with her new friends/Eli? First off, the movie references (mostly 80s) are wonderful. And the storyline would have been great for younger mains. But at 30, I found (especially Eli) too immature, 🔻 2y
robinb especially in his reaction to the breakup…but really overall. And unfortunately I didn‘t connect with any of the characters. I felt I only saw them superficially, not anything with depth. The writing was fine but just not enough to make up for my other issues. 3/5⭐️ 2y
