I've never read this author before but I've always liked reading dark, gritty thrillers set in the South. Wade's writing has been compared to Cormac McCarthy's and I can understand that based on the setting and the tone of this story, but the writing styles are different.

Beasts of the Earth explores the deplorable side of human nature while also showing the struggle it takes to try to be a good person when surrounded by evil.
