How to Live When You Could Be Dead
How to Live When You Could Be Dead | Deborah James
4 posts | 1 read | 2 to read
'Deborah James has captured the heart of the nation' - The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge @KensingtonRoyal 'Brave, bright, beautiful' - Lorraine Kelly 'Deborah's ability to find positivity in the darkest of places is an inspiration to us all' - Davina McCall I'm alive when I should be dead. In another movie, I missed the sliding door and departed this wondrous life long ago. Like so many others, I've had to learn to live not knowing if I have a tomorrow, because, statistically, I shouldn't have. At the age of 35, I was blindsided by incurable bowel cancer - I was given a less than 8% chance of surviving five years. More than five years later, my only option is to live in the now and to value one day at a time. So how do you flip your mind from a negative spiral into realistic and rebellious hope? How do you stop focusing on the why and realise that 'why not me' is just as valid a question? How we learn to respond to any given situation empowers us or destroys us. We have the ability in our minds to dictate our own outcomes - bad or good - and with the right skills and approach, we can be the master of our lives. How to Live When You Could Be Dead will show you how. It will awaken you to question your life as if you didn't have a tomorrow and live it in the way you want to today. It will show you how to build a positive mindset and, through this, invite you to think about what you could do if you believed you could do anything you want. Ebury, a division of Penguin Random House, will pay 3 from the sale of each copy of How To Live When You Could Be Dead by Deborah James sold in the UK to Bowelbabe Fund for Cancer Research UK. Pickpick

I found Deborah James' book extremely inspiring.

If there is one message I will take away from reading it, it is to have rebellious hope.

What an amazing person. I only wish she could've had many more years of fulfilling and happy life.

*looks shifty*

Turns out I actually AM living in the moment after all 😅

Now if only I can find out which supernatural forces are screwing me over...

(I kid.)

This book is inspiring even to a seasoned curmudgeon like myself. Chapters so far have talked about the importance of Hope (REBELLIOUS hope 💕), awareness of Time, and now Purpose.

No one has all the time in the world, and you don't need it to live a worthwhile life 💙

wanderinglynn Sounds like an interesting book. Stacked! 8mo

Started this book on my lunch break.

Anyone who has tried and failed to improve their mental outlook over a period of many years will know how victim-blamey being told to think positive is, but Deborah James focuses on HOPE 💙☀️

I might try cultivating hope because unlike general positivity it focuses on the unknowns of the future. It's easier to hope for the future than to alter thinking on the past and present.

What do I dare to hope for?

NatalieR I agree. Being hopeful is much more helpful for me than “being positive.” I have found gratitude extremely helpful in moments of distress or suffering. ☮️ 9mo
TheBookHippie I agree 💯. The be thankful be grateful thing grates on me. Hope is better. 9mo
RaeLovesToRead @NatalieR Gratitude can be powerful, but I struggle to summon a feeling of gratitude... instead of writing down things I'm grateful for, I write down things that made me laugh, so when I look back it makes me lol 😁💕 9mo

RaeLovesToRead @TheBookHippie On the other hand, in my love life, holding onto hope tends to be where I fall down hahaha 🤣🤣 9mo
NatalieR That‘s a great idea! I‘m glad it‘s working for you! 😊 9mo
