Locust Lane
Locust Lane: A Novel | Stephen Amidon

For fans of Mystic River by Dennis Lehane and Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng, Stephen Amidons Locust Lane is a taut and utterly propulsive story about the search for justice and the fault lines of power and influence in a seemingly idyllic town. Can anyone be trusted? On the surface, Emerson, Massachusetts, is just like any other affluent New England suburb. But when a young woman is found dead in the nicest part of town, the powerful neighbors close ranks to keep their families safe. In this searing novel, Eden Perrys death kicks off an investigation into the three teenagers who were partying with her that night, each a suspect. Hannah, a sweet girl with an unstable history. Jack, the popular kid with a mean streak. Christopher, an outsider desperate to fit in. Their parents, each with motivations of their own, only complicate the picture: they will do anything to protect their children, even at the others expense. With a brilliantly woven, intricately crafted plot that gathers momentum on every page, this is superb storytelling told in terse prosea dynamic read that is both intensely gripping and deeply affecting.

2⭐
…the bullet points
- suburban mystery thriller
- New England setting
- multiple POVs
- others have loved...

I‘m going to keep this short since it was a colossal disappointment. The many POVs were difficult to keep separated…and left me unable to care about anything or anyone, especially that ambiguous ending. Although, I‘m not sure you could call it ambiguous since it really felt like the author forgot to write the ending altogether.

I absolutely loved this book (and yes even the ending). 5 stars from me. A young woman is found dead & the story is told from the POV of the parents of those who were last seen with her. Great way to keep the mystery going by not doing the teens POV. It was beautifully written with flawed & realistic characters. I may have to go back & read more of his work. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did. Will be a “buy” for me when it‘s in paperback

When I began Locust Lane, I was hooked. It starts with the murder of a young girl and the lies and secrets quickly begin piling up and unraveling. The author does a great job of showing the lengths a parent will go to protect their child, and the mystery/suspense really builds.

But that ending....ugh....everything was great until then.

A young women is murdered in a wealthy suburban town and the “elite” close ranks. Several high school students were with her hen she was killed and they ardent saying anything. This was a slow burn read that had a satisfying ending.

The book hooked me from the start and it grew in suspense the further it went. When a young woman, who isn‘t a local in a small upper class community,is found murdered in her uncles home, the police have their work cut out for them.

Told from multiple POVs with well developed characters. This is a slow burner suspense book you will have a hard time putting down.

I found Locust Lane to be really good, right up until the very end, which I found to be incredibly disappointing. The characters were realistic; they had real flaws and problems with real reactions and motivations. Without spoilers, I found aspects of the ending unsatisfying. I did not finish the audiobook. The narration was so slow and monotone; the narrator did not create any suspense or anticipation. I do not recommend the audiobook.

Tiffiney I just finished it. You took the words out of my mouth. Really was enjoying it...until the end 😒 2y

My first experience with the author-& I really couldn‘t put this mystery/thriller/family drama down. From its tense opening (a warning- a dog is hit by a car, but is ultimately okay), the story shifts across multiple narrators, all surrounding the night in question that not only has an injured dog, but a murdered 20 year old woman. The plot provides some surprises, plenty of secrets and will work well as a catalyst for plenty of talk on justice.

MyNamesParadise I‘m excited to read this one! Great review! 2y
TorieStorieS @MyNamesParadise Thank you!! I really enjoyed this- though it‘s not exactly an uplifting experience- but it is a well done novel! 2y

While there were some good parts, I thought it would be from the teenagers point of view. It is more from the parents point of view. The book also talks a lot about the parents back stories and I think it was a little too much. I would have liked to know more about the teenagers and their relationship with the murdered girl. The book touched on that but not enough. I felt the book was more about the parents lives and the murder was just footnote.
