From Mauritanian Sahara to the Streets of New York: A Story of Hope and Diaspora | 
pickHamed studied law in #Mauritania but when he spoke out against the government, he lost his law license. So he became a journalist but was soon blacklisted for his anti-government stance. So to avoid jail, he used his life savings to fly to NYC and became a refugee amongst the African diaspora in America. Told in present tense, third person it was an awkward read and felt almost too personal. But I learned an enormous amount about Mauritania and ⬇️
Texreader about the Mauritanian refugee life in America (it‘s very difficult). He also speaks to the migrant experience generally and makes excellent arguments why seeking refuge is a very last option for people, because it is not an experience for the weak or light-hearted. Anyone interested in the life of a refugee in the USA or about corruption in west Africa, I recommend it despite its awkward narrative. #readingafrica2022 3y
