I was at Winners today to find a dress for this Saturday's back-to-back events (funeral straight to a wedding, it creates a bit of a fashion dilemma!). This was staring at me in the checkout line, and I just HAD to have it.

This woman has lived an extraordinary life. I loved her story on HONY. The book added a few more details. Her trademark humor will have you completely engrossed in her story. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
When I left FB, I stopped keeping up with Humans of New York on SM, so I was glad to come across this at the library. Brandon, who runs HoNY, met Stephanie aka Tanqueray, an 80 year old former burlesque dancer, on a snowy afternoon. Over the next several months she shared her life story, from being thrown out of her home pregnant in the 50s to becoming one of the first Black headline burlesque performers. Her endless reinvention is fascinating!
Fascinating story of Stepahnie Johnson, aka Tanqueray, known for her burlesque dancing in the 1970s, but there is so much more to her. https://cannonballread.com/2022/07/tanqueray-elcicco/
