The Missing Girls of Alardyce House
The Missing Girls of Alardyce House | Heather Atkinson
2 posts | 2 read
Heather Atkinson is my no.1 author. She keeps you glued to her books from beginning to end. Edinburgh 1880. When Amy Osbournes parents are lost at sea, she is forced to leave her London home and is sent to live with her aunt and uncle at the opposite end of the country. Alardyce House is depressing and dreary, her aunt haughty and cruel. Amy strikes up a friendship with her cousin Edward but his older brother Henry is just as conceited as his mother, and a mutual loathing develops between him and Amy. As her weeks of mourning pass, the realisation begins to dawn on Amy that her aunt has designs on her inheritance and the candidate she favours to be her neices husband fills Amy with horror. Struggling in this strange, unwelcoming environment, Amy begins to suspect that something isnt right at Alardyce House. There are rumours below stairs of a monster on the loose, local women are being brutally attacked and her cousin Henry is the prime suspect. Alardyce House is full of dark secrets and Amy isnt sure who she can trust... If you love Emily Organ, Kate Saunders and Ann Granger, youll loveThe Missing Girls of Alardyce House. Discover bestselling author Heather Atkinson and you'll never look back... Please note this book was previously published as Sins of a Father. What readers are saying about Heather Atkinson: What a story. This book I think is the best yet from Heather Atkinson and I have read all hers so far. 'Another brilliant book from Heather...she really is one the best in the business. ' 'I have read ALL Heather Atkinson's books. They are all fantastic.' 'I stumbled upon Heather's books and I'm so glad I did, characters excellent and storylines are great, I find myself searching the book stores for more of them to read the minute I finish one.'

Bailedbailed

This was my first #readyourkindle book and unfortunately I had to bail 5% in. Not an auspicious start. 😆 I think the author was trying to create a sympathetic main character, but she only succeeded in annoying me. She lost her parents and went to live with an aunt and uncle she barely knew. She immediately despises her aunt (and yes, she‘s not a peach), starts making eyes at a footman and bribes her maid for gossip. I‘m just not interested.

TheAromaofBooks I've been trying to read one number from the #readyourkindle challenge each month, and so far I'm 4/4 bails 😂 at least I'm getting them checked off!! 2w
robinb @TheAromaofBooks That‘s what I‘m going with too! 5% is a bit soon, but when you know you know. 😂😂🤷🏻‍♀️ And TBH, my other three picks don‘t sound all that promising…what was I thinking?? #impulsebuy 2w

CBee Hey friend - keeping you in my thoughts with this weather - please let me know you‘re okay ♥️♥️ @robinb 2w
robinb @CBee Sorry I‘m just now seeing this, Cydney. We‘ve had tornadoes very close to us but no direct damage to us (some in town though I think). Expecting Round 2 around 3 am. Probably not much sleep tonight. I think maybe things have stayed north of you tonight? But looks like you might get some after us in the next round. Stay safe and thank you so much for asking! 😘 2w
CBee @robinb glad all is well! It didn‘t come our way thank goodness 😅 2w
robinb @CBee Glad you were spared! Our last round was 4:30 am and fortunately not as bad. Trees down in our neighborhood and no power since 10 pm but am thankful to be writing this. 🙏 2w
CBee @robinb yes! Just had a big storm come through here but it‘s dissipating now. Might get more later but it isn‘t supposed to be severe 🤞🏻🤞🏻 2w
robinb @CBee We were without power for 18 hours. There were places here hit harder than we were so I‘m glad they worked on theirs first. Utility workers are unsung heroes. 🩵 1w
CBee @robinb wow! Yep, definitely unsung heroes - I never get irritated with them if it‘s taking longer - I know they‘re trying their best ♥️ 1w

Bailedbailed

I'm going to have to DNF this one.

It's predictable in that I guessed the bad guy from the start, checked the ending, & confirmed I was right. Predictability is not always a deal-breaker but the main character is not engaging enough to warrant continuing, in fact I found her downright annoying.

Trigger warnings: graphic sexual violence, sadism, & torture.

My thanks to NetGalley & publishers, Boldwood Books, for the opportunity to read an ARC.
