This was my favorite read in May. A story of four generations of women in Ireland, told in chapters of 500 words each. I loved the language, the lyrical prose, and the characters so much.

I don‘t think I‘ve read anything else by Ryan but I‘ll sure be looking for more of his work.

Next up another loan from a friend of a book I've had on my TBR for a while.

This was so easy to read, with really short chapters (500 words each) and beautifully written we follow the story of the Aylward women. Despite some dark things happening it is a gentle story, you really enjoy witnessing this family's interactions and I laughed out loud with some dialogues. A lot can be said about men writing women's characters but Donal Ryan does an amazing job creating this strong women that bear all the weight of the story.

I waited months for publication day and so was quite surprised to find myself telling the audiobook to f**k off on page 2 - I was invested early. I had to put the book away for an hour, but then I listened the rest in a single setting. Beautifully told story of four generations of Nenagh women and their shared lives. Queens all ❤ And written by a poet.

I finally have my hands on this! Waited all summer and very excited to read this next...

I haven‘t read Strange Flowers but heard a lot of good things about it, so I jumped at the chance to read this. Unfortunately this is only a soft pick. According to the blurb this is a ‘searing, jubilant novel about 4 generations of women‘. It really concentrates on only 2 generations but seems to skim over the surface, and the large chronological leaps meant that I never felt fully invested in the women or their stories.
