The King's Justice
The King's Justice | Stephen R. Donaldson
7 posts | 3 read | 3 to read
Two new, original novellasDonaldson's first publication since finishing the Thomas Covenant seriesare a sure cause for celebration among his many fans. In The King's Justice, a stranger dressed in black arrives in the village of Settle's Crossways, following the scent of a terrible crime. He even calls himself "Black," though almost certainly that is not his name. The people of the village discover that they have a surprising urge to cooperate with this stranger, though the desire of inhabitants of quiet villages to cooperate with strangers is not common in their land, or most lands. But this gift will not save him as he discovers the nature of the evil concealed in Settle's Crossways. The "Augur's Gambit" is a daring plan created by Mayhew Gordian, Hieronomer to the Queen of Indemnie, a plan to save his Queen and his country. Gordian is a reader of entrails. In the bodies of chickens, lambs, piglets, and one stillborn infant he sees the same message: the island nation of Indemnie is doomed. But even in the face of certain destruction a man may fight, and the Hieronomer is utterly loyal to his beautiful Queen--and to her only daughter. The "Augur's Gambit" is his mad attempt to save a kingdom.

How do you pick just one #AuthorYouLove? I can't choose, so I'll go with a few from my #FavoriteAuthor list. In no particular order: L.M. Montgomery, Frank Herbert, Kelley Armstrong, Michael Moorcock, & Stephen R. Donaldson. There are plenty of others, but those are the first few that came to mind. #AprilBookishMadness #ReadingResolutions #AuthorsILove

Stephen R. Donaldson is an #AutoBuyAuthor for me, along with Kelley Armstrong and Michael Moorcock. And I'm betting anybody who's read and loved The Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss will be joining me in racing to get a copy when book 3 finally comes out - whenever that might be! #MarchIntoReading

dixi_e How did you make this? 8y
TK-421 @dixi_e I took screenshots of my recently read books on the Goodreads website and a note listing my January stats and then combined the two pics in the Layout app on my phone 8y

Pictured top right: 5 books I've been planning to read for months. They're just the tip of the TBR iceberg! I'm not much of a planner when it comes to reading; I prefer to pick books based on the mood I'm in. That being said, I DO hope to read at least one of these books after I finish some of my current reads. I'm really excited about The King's Justice and can't wait to finally read HP & The Cursed Child! #ReadJanuary #ThisMonthsTBR

My tbr pile hasn't changed much since last month (other than getting longer!) In December, I hope to finish my current reads, plus all of the books I had intended to read last month. I'm way behind on my Goodreads challenge so I need to finish 11 books by the end of the year! For some, that's a breeze. For me, it's going to be difficult. I may have to change my goal to 52 books instead of 55 :( #wanttoreadindec #seasonsreadings2016

The books I am most looking forward to reading are The Name of the Wind, Odd Apocalypse, and The King's Justice. I've heard great things about Name of the Wind so I hope it lives up to its reputation! Almost all of the Odd Thomas books so far have been enjoyable so I have great expectations for this one too. I'm a big fan of Stephen R. Donaldson so I can't wait to start reading his latest offering! #Booktober @RealLifeReading #MostAnticipatedReads

My photo fails to capture the beauty of my favourite bookstore, McNally Robinson. I was there yesterday and picked up Pratchett's The Shepherd's Crown, Harry Potter & the Cursed Child and Stephen R. Donaldson's The King's Justice. I'm looking forward to reading them! It seems a shame to set them aside on the shelf, but I have several other books that must be read first! www.mcnallyrobinson.com
