I enjoyed reading this story because it is a fun read that contains dragons. Abel wants to fly dragons just like many students I have had experience with. I think it is important to read books children have interest in.
In this book dragons are domesticated by humans. Abel is the main character and expects to fly dragons. Abel's sister shows up to his window with a stolen dragon and is able to fly. Abel has to make the choice of what is worth fighting for.
This is at the top of my did not finish stack. My son wanted me to read it to him at bedtime but kept falling asleep. I think it was way over his head. Other books came along, and this is just sitting there. I rarely delete books from my goodreads, but this one was not for us.
Is this middle grade book as cool & raucous & fun as the title suggests it might be? Yes, yes it is. London knows how to tell a good story and this one about rival gangs and their dragons is a lot of fun. Throw in a family with one kid in law enforcement, one a dragon thief and one who failed his dragon riders exam and you have an excellent recipe for disaster. And did I mention there‘s a stolen dragon too? A solid start to a new series.
This was so much fun! Dragons have been 'tamed' and are used as modes of transportation. Abel finds himself caught between his siblings and rival gangs and must enter a dragon battle to save his family and win the dragons back their freedom. The world is fantastic, I loved the dragon lessons and all of the neat little details. Can't wait for the next one! It was marketed as Fast and the Furious with dragons which it lives up to.
