Calling on Litsy knitters! I am trying to learn how to knit. So far I‘ve just been watching YouTube tutorials (what isn‘t on YouTube??). Do you have any outstanding recommendations for beginner knitting books or should I stick to the videos? 🧶
LeahBergen I learned from my grandmother when I was a kid so I‘m no help here 😆. @Lindy may have some advice as she‘s a magnificent knitter (and very knowledgeable about new knitting and craft books). 😊 3y
julesG I learned knitting as a kid, so can't really help. Maybe start with a children's knitting book. 3y

julesG And Elizabeth Zimmermann's books, although seemingly ancient, are quite good. 3y

Tamra @LeahBergen lucky you, they are the best teachers. 🤗 3y
Tamra @julesG thank for the tips, I‘ll stack them. I definitely need the no tears versions! 😜 3y
Chittavrtti Barbara Walker books are nice for the sheer variety of patterns: lace, intarsia, texture, cables. There are photos accompanying each stitch. Not a basic series but once the basics are there very inspiring. 3y
Tamra @Chittavrtti thank you! I‘ll stack it and be on the look out. 3y
Cathythoughts Exciting 👏🏻 3y
Lauren890 I basically taught myself to knit using this book by Erika Knight. You learn to knit through projects. 3y
Simple Knitting: A Complete How-to-Knit Workshop with 20 Projects
Tamra @Lauren890 many thanks! 😄 I like the idea of projects. 3y
Tamra @Cathythoughts it‘s frustrating, but I enjoy having busy fingers. 3y
Lindy Tamra, try using a different yarn (thicker, in a solid light colour, not a blend of colours) and larger needles. It will be easier to see your stitches while you get used to the process. Good work so far! 3y
Tamra @Lindy thank you Lindy for the tip! I did start with a super chunky yarn and large needles which are indeed easier to use. I‘m making blocks for a throw and I‘m enjoying it! I doubt it will be even, but it‘s the process which I find pleasant. It‘s one of those flow state activities. 3y
Lauren890 Good luck! I hope you find something that works for you! 3y
