Gender Euphoria
Gender Euphoria: Stories of joy from trans, non-binary and intersex writers | Laura Kate Dale
GENDER EUPHORIA: a powerful feeling of happiness experienced as a result of moving away from ones birth-assigned gender. So often the stories shared by trans people about their transition centre on gender dysphoria: a feeling of deep discomfort with their birth-assigned gender, and a powerful catalyst for coming out or transitioning. But for many non-cisgender people, its gender euphoria which pushes forward their transition: the joy the first time a parent calls them by their new chosen name, the first time they have the confidence to cut their hair short, the first time they truly embrace themself. In this groundbreaking anthology, nineteen trans, non-binary, agender, gender-fluid and intersex writers share their experiences of gender euphoria: an agender dominatrix being called Daddy, an Arab trans man getting his first tattoos, a trans woman embracing her inner fighter. What they have in common are their feelings of elation, pride, confidence, freedom and ecstasy as a direct result of coming out as non-cisgender, and how coming to terms with their gender has brought unimaginable joy into their lives.

This is a brilliant book, I really enjoyed it. A collection of essays by nineteen trans, non-binary, agender, gender-fluid and intersex writers, describing the multi-faceted ways they find joy in simply being themselves.

This book contains 30 essays, about a 3rd from the editor herself, on the joy that comes from being trans, non-binary, and intersex. I found this very affecting and illuminating. I‘m not familiar with non-binary and intersex and some of the most fascinating essays came from them. One was about Non-B parenting, one was a trans man being voted prom-king. One was a trans woman being part of the sisterhood on a woman‘s roller derby team. All great.

Suet624 I need to learn a lot more on this subject. Stacked. 2y
DivineDiana Agree with @Suet624! Stacked. 2y

Reggie @Suet624 @DivineDiana because I had no idea a lot of these essays are from the UK, gender affirming care is part of their healthcare which I thought was cool. It still has its red tape and bureaucracy but it‘s there. I hope you like it if you get to it. 2y
Reggie @Aimeesue Thanks! There are some towards the back that really touched me. Some of these people had really good parents and grandparents that let these people when either they were kids or older inform them or who THEY were not the other way around. 2y
Aimeesue @Reggie The world needs more parents and grandparents like that. ❤️ 2y
Centique My daughter has a friend going through hormone treatment at the moment. I am listening and learning 💕And glad that they have these options here, even though there are many hoops to jump through and costs. 2y

arlenefinnigan @Tamra I've bought two books so far today. I'm still coughing my guts up, but I have two new books ❤️ 2y
Tamra @arlenefinnigan 😝 I am on the side of the books. Speedy recovery and I hope you keep your sense of smell & taste. I wish I could bring over a pot of homemade soup for you. (edited) 2y
arlenefinnigan @Tamra aw thank you! Happily my husband is a very good cook and we've got loads of soup in the freezer. 2y

arlenefinnigan @Bookwomble on the mend now, thanks. The 100 Miles In March challenge I signed up to has become slightly more of a challenge! 2y
Bookwomble @arlenefinnigan Oof! The fatigue can hang around for a while after. For me it was a lingering cough that was most irritating! Hope it doesn't interfere with your challenge too much🚶‍♀️👣👣 2y

Some recent trans related purchases. If I surround myself with enough books it‘s almost like there‘s a community to talk to here.

Megabooks This one was also a pick, just not as strong one. 3y
SkeletonKey @Megabooks - I haven‘t read any of those yet, I‘ll check em out! 3y
jmofo @SkeletonKey crumbs, I wish I was better at keeping in touch with people. I hope you‘re doing well. I‘m not usually super into Pride Month but this year I almost had a wistfulness about it (although I still holed up like a hermit) How was it for you? I‘ll try to email you this week, if that‘s good with you. 3y
SkeletonKey @jmofo - Sure! Always welcome to email. I didn‘t do anything for pride, still not really leaving the house much. I did try to go to a virtual meetup but it was a bit of a nightmare haha. Hope you‘re doing well too. 3y
Kenyazero These look fun, I'll add the two I don't have on my TBR. Thanks for sharing! 3y
SkeletonKey @Kenyazero - Yay! Hope you enjoy. 3y
