pickThomas King‘s novels never fail to delight me, with his breezy style, witty dialogue, and quirky characters. Best of all is his deep concern for the injustices of society. I saw a statue commemorating Edith Josie when I was in Whitehorse 2 weeks ago and I am pleased to find a reference to her in Thomas King‘s novel:
“Used to be a woman up north that had a radio show. Used to start it off with ‘Here Are the News.”
I‘ve been pulling up the wood crosses and replacing them with limestone slabs that I pry out of the dry riverbed in the belief that the children buried here deserve better than having their graves marked with the talisman of the cult that killed them.

The overnight temperature has stayed below freezing. Winter is leaving the land, but the cold is retreating at a tourist‘s pace, strolling along, taking in the sights, lingering over lunch at a restaurant recommended in the guidebook.
pickI love anything Thomas King writes. I love how he does dialogue and how he layers stories and how I learn something whenever I read his books. This is a satiric look at how the ‘haves‘ wield power and the impacts on the ‘ not haves‘ past and present. The main character is mute by choice and the story swirls around him ❤️❤️
