14 posts | 12 read | 3 to read
Set in the thick of the Paris Resistance movement during WWII, this exciting novel tells of the deep involvement of Catherine Dior and two young women who risked their lives to support her effortsperfect for fans of Kate Quinn and Jennifer Chiaverini. France, 1944: The Nazis still occupy Paris, and twenty-five-year-old Gabby Foucher hates these enemies, though, as the concierge of ten rue Royale, she makes it a point to avoid trouble, unlike her sister Yvette. Until she, like her sister, is recruited into the Resistance by Catherine Diorsister of the fashion designer, Christian Dior. Gabby and Yvette are both swept into the world of spies, fugitives, and Resistance workers, and it doesn't take long for the sisters to realize that their lives are in danger. Gabby discovers an elderly tenant is hiding a wounded British fugitive, and Yvette becomes a messenger for the Resistance. But as Gabby begins to fall in love with her patient and Yvettes impulsiveness lead her into intrigue at an ever-higher level, both women will discover that their hearts and even their souls hang in the balance as well. This page-turning novel is perfect for any reader fascinated by the role of women during World War II, whose stories are often untold, and introduces us to Catherine Dior, the fearless real-life Resistance hero.

Read in May- Inspired in the life and events around Catherine Dior during the end of WWII. I found this one so interesting, it motivated me to read about the Dior‘s family and Catherine involvement in the resistance movement. At the end, the author mention which characters were fictional or not. I thought about those sad moments in history but also made me think about what Ukraine is living now, in this present war😢 ⬇️

Gissy During my reading I read about this difficult time in the history of France. I am reading about these events too in the book The Splendid and the Vile. The novel has some annoying characters but I focused my attention in the history parts. 3.8/4⭐️
#SisterBirthday My sister‘s birthday was last month so I wanted to read a novel about sisters relationship, this one was perfect. Ivette and Gabby was a relationship with ups and downs but a solid one❤️

Another WW11 story in a crowded field. This offering telling the stories of Gabby and Yvette, 2 French sisters from Paris. Living in occupied France, each sister embarks on a separate journey to assist the underground French Resistance. Even though the sisters live together they seem to be largely unaware of each other‘s activities. A tale that builds in excitement and interest as the pages go by. A heartfelt addition to the genre.

Mixed feels. Loved the sisters and how they fought in their own way. Had trouble how the story progressed. Yvette and Gabby were thrown into the fight to get Nazis out of Paris in unconventionally. As historic fiction, I was hoping for more on Catherine Dior -as the book said it was about her part in the war. Alas, wasn‘t much Dior besides getting the sisters into the resistance. Suspense was fleeting so it didn‘t feel like much

I wanted to ❤️ this book bc I gravitate toward stories steeped in historical fiction & defiant women. However, this 📖 felt like historical fiction on a diet - like fat free potato chips. The bag says it contains chips, but the deliciousness is missing and all you have is a stomach ache. While it was interesting learning about Catherine Dior as part of the WWII French Resistance, that part of the plot was too surface-level to save the book.

Wow this one came in quick - considering the previous was real late
The story is inspired by the real-life bravery of Catherine Dior, sister of the fashion designer and a heroine of World War II France. These two sisters take their fight to the Nazis differently. They find together that courage comes in many forms.
Sounds like a very interesting spy type novel between sisters. But also fashion.

I love a good WWII Resistance novel, and that's exactly what I got. Now I'm going to have to do more digging on Catherine Dior - I can't believe I didn't know more about her before this! #historicalfiction
