Cranky Chicken | Katherine Battersby
26 posts | 12 read | 1 to read
Narwhal and Jelly meet The Bad Guys in this heartwarming, brightly illustrated, and downright hilarious chapter book about what happens when a very cranky chicken is befriended by a very cheerful worm. Cranky Chicken is, well, cranky. He has one cranky eyebrow, cranky eyes, and even cranky, scratchy toes. But then one day he meets a very friendly worm named Speedy who wants nothing more than to be his friend. Young readers will love seeing the mismatched friendship grow over the course of three charming and laugh-out-loud short adventures as Chicken and Speedy become BFFs (Best Feathered Friends) and Speedy shows Chicken how to look on the bright side.

This Graphica book is very child friendly and appeals to young readers as it is rather easy to read and understand, portrays humor, has interactive illustrations, and carries an important message. I believe that this story would be best enjoyed by children in grades K-3. I could see this story being utilized as a read aloud with children who yet have the ability to read. But it would also be a good Graphica piece to provide beginning readers with.

I found this Graphica book to be very child friendly as well as easy to read! The storyline was very clever, and the illustrations were very interactive and helped portray what was happening very well in my opinion. I found it to send a very important and strong message to its reader focusing on the importance friendship. I would definitely recommend reading this book to an elementary level classroom!

This graphics published in 2021 is filled with humor. The story is about a cranky chicken and a speedy worm who without knowing need each other. The story follows the two around and is a quick and fun read.

This has been one of my favorite books to read recently. I love the simplicity of the illustrations that have colorful backgrounds, but focus on Cranky and Speedy. It is a quick read but still tells a full story.

Everything about Cranky Chicken is, as expected cranky. Cranky eyes, a cranky eyebrow, and cranky feet. One day Cranky meets a friendly worm named Speedy who, through short and charming adventures, helps him to look on the brighter side of things and become best friends.

The Cranky Chicken, by Katherine Battersby is wonderful attribute to what kind of emotions students may be feeling and what it looks like as well. It also talked about how with the support of friends and family, you can conquer those emotions and find things that make you happy.

100% picked this up just because I liked the title. And it‘s pretty amusing! Even with its anti cheese agenda.

BookNAround Love the title but anti-cheese agenda? That‘s sacrilege! 2y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @BookNAround, maybe that‘s why the chicken is cranky - cheese withdrawals? 😂 2y
TheLibrarian I‘m very intrigued. 2y

This was a really fun graphic novel. It does break the fourth wall. The chicken and the worm do not talk to the readers, but they know they are in the book you are reading. Cranky Chicken is cranky because it doesn‘t have a friend. Turns out the worm is the same. This book just gets a chuckle out of readers. One thing I really loved is when Worm says I can be your wingman. ⬇

I mean, there is no way I could resist a book with this title & this awesome cover! This is a super fun graphic novel with great illustrations & minimal text perfect for emerging readers looking for something in between picture books & full on chapter books. As you might guess, it‘s about a cranky chicken...& then the chicken meets a worm & makes a new friend. It‘s a delightful story about feelings & friendship. Super fun! On sale 9/7/21.
