The Beach Trees
The Beach Trees | Karen White
6 posts | 21 read | 10 to read
From the bestselling author of After the Rain, Sea Change, and The Color of Light... From the time she was twelve, Julie Holt knew what a random tragedy can do to a family. At that tender age, her little sister disappeared-never to be found. It was a loss that slowly eroded the family bonds she once relied on. As an adult with a prestigious job in the arts, Julie meets a struggling artist who reminds her so much of her sister, she can't help feeling protective. It is a friendship that begins a long and painful process of healing for Julie, leading her to a house on the Gulf Coast, ravaged by hurricane Katrina, and to stories of family that take her deep into the past.

I think this story would be better if I had read it instead of listened to it because the narrorator's voice didn't show much emotion throughout the book. However, I still recommend it.

Mehso-so

I think this story would have been better if the narrorator on the audible was a bit less monotone but overall a decent story. Not life changing but it was a good beach read.

3 missing persons, 2 hurricanes, 1 murder, and tons of family secrets. Told in two first person narratives 50 years apart. This was my first Karen White, but won‘t be my last.

What a fantastic story! White weaves a mystery in with her stories and it is a joy watching this story unfold and learning all the family secrets that had been buried for over 50 years. Everything is told in such vivid detail, that you feel as though you are experiencing everything her characters are. The Beach Trees really captured my heart, it‘s story will stay with me for a long time.
