All That Really Matters
All That Really Matters | Nicole Deese
5 posts | 5 read | 7 to read
Molly McKenzie's bright personality and on-trend fashion and beauty advice have earned her an impressive social media following, as well as a shiny monthly paycheck. When her manager-turned-boyfriend tells her of an upcoming audition to host a makeover show for America's underprivileged youth, all her dreams finally seem to be coming true. There's just one catch: she has little experience interacting with people in need. To gain an edge on her competitors, she applies to volunteer at a transitional program for aged-out foster kids during summer, only the program's director, Silas Whittaker, doesn't find her as charming as her followers do. But since forfeiting a goal has never been her style, Molly's only option is to accept the terms Silas lays out and submit to his rules--even the most ridiculous ones pertaining to social media. Soon as the residents of the home become more than a means to pad her career resume, and Silas becomes more than an obstacle on her path to fame, her once-narrow focus expands to include the deep needs of those she's serving... and perhaps the ones she's neglected inside herself as well. It took years to build her platform, but only one summer to discover what really matters most.

Molly is an up-and-coming fashion and beauty influencer. Her manager/boyfriend suggests she gain experience for the chance to host a new makeover show for underprivileged youth by volunteering at a local transitional program for aged-out foster kids. While she is initially met with mistrust/suspicion concerning her motives, she eventually wins over the program‘s director, Silas, and begins to bond and care deeply about the young adults she works🔻

I loved this story. Molly is such an upbeat, positive person that I fell in love with her right away, and as she works to better others‘ lives, she comes to realize even more about herself. And Silas, as a strict but caring authority figure, is softened by the sheer determination and sunny disposition of his newest volunteer.
This is a sweet story of not only 🔻

I really enjoyed this story. I loved watching the main character grow and learn who she really is and why. My second book by this author and I'm loving her work. 💜

We have a family friend who's husband is being put on hospice. I wanted to send her a "blind date with a book" box and was curious on a book(s) to send.
Being someone who's husband has had cancer myself, I don't want to send her a book about grieving or encouragement because that takes your mind back to the pain. Instead, I'm wondering what books made you laugh, that you got lost in, or got you through a tough time. TIA

Before I Called You Mine was a 2020 favorite and I'm so pumped that this All That Really Matters was equally fantastic. Amazing characters, educating on the topics of foster care, influence, and inspiring to say the least. Nicole, please- pretty please write a story for Miles, Val & Tucker. ❤️

MaggieCarr charming as her followers do. Despite his ridiculous rules and terms, Molly dives into mentoring, surprising herself with the genuine connections and concern she quickly develops for the girls — and Silas. But just as everything seems perfectly aligned for her professional future, it starts to crumble under the pressure. ↩️ 4y
