I‘ve seen this book compared to bret ellis‘s American Psycho and I definitely felt that vibe, especially as her grip on reality started deteriorating and she was no longer able to tell what was real or not. But this book wasn‘t detached and satirical. It was sharp and manipulative and cruel and sad. I couldn‘t stop reading, the MC really got under my skin and I‘m glad to be away from her. ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

reading_rainbow Actually the more I think about it, this book reminded me of alissa nutting‘s Tampa a lot 7d

Boy Parts starts out with a strong premise, but becomes a strange psychological thriller. The ideas presented are interesting (such as the superficiality of Gen Z & younger; performative existence; reel v/s real life; gaslighting for power dynamics; women‘s gaze as not always purer than the male gaze etc…). But I think the book lacked in execution and seemed sloppy in parts.
The narrator swallows a lot of her words, making it a difficult listen.

If you are in search of a challenging read that explores sexuality and its power dynamics, and challenges your assumptions about art and beauty, Boy Parts is a must listen. Eliza Clark has crafted a bold narrative that forces you to think about what it means to make queer art today....

I am posting one book per day from my extensive to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it, I just do. Some will be old, some will be new. Don‘t judge me - I have a lot of books. Join in if you want!

Boy Parts qualifies as a train wreck book, so horrible but impossible to look away. British young woman, Irina is obsessive: with her appearance, her work as a photographer, her relationship with an ex roommate/partner/bff, and most of all the “boys” she uses as models in her work. This one is a page turner but be prepared to feel uncomfortable most of the time. This has something to say about how society views beautiful women.

Chelsea.Poole @Megabooks I finally figured out what happened near page 200 lol. There was some foreshadowing right before with the man in the hotel room. I was still very surprised by the facts of how all that (glass in the eye) 😱 went down and especially the aftermath. 13mo
Megabooks @Chelsea.Poole right?! It was super brutal!!! 😱😱 13mo

Dark. Ooo this is dark. And it takes an unexpected darker turn around page 200. But I enjoyed it. It asks interesting questions about art and consent.

Irina is a fetish artist who takes pictures of men she meets on the street. The book opens with a mother confronting her about pictures Irina took of her underage son. And her decisions just get worse from there fueled by drugs and an inability to form healthy relationships.

Megabooks This was supposed to be a dark comedy, but I didn‘t find much funny about it. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ 13mo

This book has had my attention since the first line. It's dark and disturbing and the protagonist is so very unlikeable but something about it has me ensnared. 58 minutes left at this point and will update with full review when I finish! The narration does the MC perfectly!

I love me a story with a strong dysfunctional female protagonist. Follows Irina, a photographer with an eye for innocent (read feminine) looking men for her explicit looking photos.
The plot and pace were good, disliked some teeny tiny bits here and there. But, the ending covered for everything. Definitely an unexpected one. A must must read.😍
4.5/5🌟
I'd love to try more by Eliza Clark. Any recommendations?

Disturbing, graphic, and a bit funny. I could not put this book down but I can‘t decide if that‘s for good or bad reason. Definitely some interesting commentary but I haven‘t been able to tell whether or not I think the author successfully did the despicable main character thing well. I‘ve seen this compared to American Psycho and My Year of Rest and Relaxation, which is completely valid but cheapens it a bit for me. Captivating nonetheless.

The blurred face matches my reaction to this book: aggressive head-shaking. The cover is so cool, and I love books which are set in The UK & especially London, however, the main character is horrible. There are several HORRIFIC scenes in this book. Not sure what the author wanted to say.

This was incredibly well written and I feel harsh giving it a so so - Eliza Clark is fantastic, deep and funny, with amazing sketched in subtle characters. While I love ‘angry millennial woman‘ books, and I seem to read thousands of them, this was the meanest and most unpleasant. I think I felt too delicate for the nastiness just now

Tw for so many things, look up if you‘re considering reading
