I have read a few novels about the San Francisco 1906 earthquake and this one was serviceable. I didn‘t like a single character and would have liked more from the ending but it was an easy read and I appreciated Vera‘s determination.

I really enjoyed this coming of age story (set in 1906 during The Great San Francisco Earthquake) with an interesting cast of characters, a well researched historical setting and evocative writing. Although the title character seemed a bit mature for a 15 year old and the ending felt slightly rushed, overall it was well worth reading.
A great historical fiction coming-of-age story set amid the great fire & earthquake of 1906 San Francisco. Primarily character driven with an interesting plot that moves at a comfortable, engaging pace. The characters were quite diverse & spirited. Great atmosphere & presentation of historical San Francisco with specific references to areas & streets. As a former resident, I found this very entertaining. Colorful, entertaining, & well-executed.
