I was not wild about the first book in this series, Burning Chambers, which seemed interminable. I stuck with it because the sixteenth century religious wars are fascinating. I approached this, the sequel, thinking: “DNF” but was pleasantly surprised. While the history is interesting, Moss gives us far more detail about the Joubert family, and the evil Vidal. Thoroughly enjoyed the action, and the details about relics, and their trade was great.
