pickNot my favorite of the graphics I've read recently but a solid addition to the middle grade graphic memoirs shelf. Tori uses her writing to process her parent's divorce, difficult teenage siblings, and falling out with friends. The real world is interspersed with her fantasy world throughout. Nothing groundbreaking here but a book that will surely mean a lot to the kids that need it.

Travel through middle school with Tori as she recants her memories of 7th and 8th grade. This is a character driven story of tough points in life. Sometimes it a moody teenage brother named Ryan or his twin sister the dancing phenom. Sometimes it‘s mom and dad fighting, and dad forgetting his weekly dinners. This story is mostly a set of vignettes, broken up by pieces of the book written within the pages of this book.
pickThis middle grade graphic novel memoir is an engaging, unflinchingly honest story about growing up in a fractured family & finding ways to cope with divorce, complex family dynamics & the pressures of middle school. Finding refugee in writing, Tori creates worlds of adventure & danger but also friendship and stability to help her navigate the tensions of everyday life. On the whole, a solid debut sure to resonant with young readers. On sale 5/21.
