Lovecraft meets Verne in this story about a small band of explorers in an eldritch cave system. Made me think a lot about colonization. Copper‘s 1920s retro style compelled me, but he fell back on Lovecraftian cliches & “telling,” so that the writing felt clunky and rushed towards the end.
I say this with love and humor: This book is DORKY. But the descriptions are beautiful and eerie, and if they linger, this may change to a Pick in my memory.
