James Vukelich Kaagagaabaw gives an Ojibwe word of the day. I particularly liked his message when he gave the Ojibwe word for It Is Christmas.

Good introduction to Ojibwe history and culture for young readers. Unlike many books about Native nations, this book talks about the Ojibwe throughout as a living nation and culture. The illustrations are a mix of modern and mid-1800s photos. There is also a bio section at the end with short bios of about fifteen Ojibwe people, including contemporary authors, activists, and athletes. Highly recommended. I will check out other books in this series.

Exbrarian I am a tribal member of Citizen Potawatomi Nation. The Potawatomi are closely related to the Ojibwe. This looks interesting. Stacked. 4y

ErinSBecker @Exbrarian hope you like it. It is for young readers (maybe 3rd grade?). I found it educational - despite growing up adjacent to and spending a lot of time in traditional Ojibwe lands, I never learned anything about Ojibwe history or culture. Having this book as part of my elementary education would have been a vast improvement on the generic Pilgrim/Thanksgiving narrative we got. ðŸ˜’ 4y
