On the Night of the Seventh Moon
On the Night of the Seventh Moon | Victoria Holt
For generations, Victoria Holt has dazzled and entertained millions of readers with her spine-tingling novels of romantic suspense. On the Night of the Seventh Moon is one of her most evocative, magical, and chilling. Come take a journey into a dark and shadowy forest where nothing is as it seems.... On the night of the seventh moon, according to ancient Black Forest legend, Loke, the god of mischief, is abroad in the world. It is a night for singing and dancing. And it is a night for love. Helena Trant was enchanted by everything she found in the Black Forest—its people, its mysterious castles, its legends and lore. Especially its legends of love. Until the day she started to live one of them and the enchantment turned suddenly into a terrifying nightmare....

I did not like this book in a way because of the mysogeny. But I do like history, and this book was written with a more accurate reflection of time and how people interacted. It has made me more curious about customs and actions so that is a plus. I would not recommend it as a great book, but I would recommend it if you like history and gothic writing.

slategreyskies Thanks for this review. I was just getting ready to read this, but I‘m particularly sensitive to misogyny, so now I know to pass on this one. 5y

Reading this between writing paper and studying as an easy to put down read. I used to like Victoria Holt Books but this one seems annoying and particularly mysoginistic. I‘m wondering if it was the time she wrote the book?

Laura317 I‘m thinking these wouldn‘t hold up today. Several books I read as a teen/early twenties haven‘t. 6y
CoffeeK8 I reread a couple recently and I had the same problem 6y
Ruthiella My mom used to read these. I suspect they reflect the era they were written in. 6y
SledgeReader I loved Holt when I was a teenager way back when. (I preferred my mother‘s Judith Krantz! 🤣) 6y
