Fernando Granados is a university professor in financial trouble when a boyhood friend he hasn't seen in thirty years reenters his life. Memo Galindo, now part of a notorious Mexican cartel, soon persuades Fernando to build a meth lab on his country property, just outside the ancient town of Remedios. Fernando's strong-willed wife Sandra and their beloved 18-year-old son Flix each fall under Memo's charismatic spell. The cascading family crisis plays out on a larger stage, from its roots in Guatemala's civil war in the '80s to corruption in the Guatemalan army and American DEA, in a country where even the forces of nature wreak vengeance.Clearman, author of Concepcin

I finished this last week for a book took review. Set in Guatemala it‘s a quick & gritty read about a university professor & family man who owes money to a local loan shark when his friend returns after decades away & wants to open a meth lab on remote property he owns. Things spiral out of control as his wife & son get involved & a Mexican cartel comes sniffing around. I‘m not a big fan of drug stories but I found myself caught up in the drama ⬇️

DebinHawaii ...It‘s my 2nd book by this author & I like the glimpses she gives into the underbelly of life in Guatemala. I paired it with a simple Guatemalan Guacamole with grilled tortillas for my book tour review. Full review & recipe are here: http://kahakaikitchen.blogspot.com/2020/09/the-book-tour-stops-here-review-of.ht... (edited) 4y

My finished vegan Chickpea & Pastina Soup with Lemon & Dill—just a very simple mostly pantry & fridge soup, it it hit the spot for my allergy sniffles. Here with one of my current reads for a book tour review later in the week. I‘ve just started it so no opinions yet but I love the cover art!
