"Most often, though, when you hear people cryin' 'witch,' it's just an excuse to hurt or kill somebody they're scared of. Or somebody that just lives life differently. And these somebodies bein' accused tend to have cooches...Don't matter what people call ya. They'll decide who you are regardless of any label you might choose."
I love Grammie Atti in this book! ?
TW: Racial Slurs, Rape, Violence
I absolutely adored this book! I wish I would have known beforehand about the trigger warnings, as parts of it were difficult to read, but the strength Evvie showed throughout the book was powerful. This book was both heartbreaking and empowering. I typically don't enjoy books with sad endings, but all the events that took place in the novel felt right and contributed to the overall feeling of the story.
