Fans of Children of Blood and Bone will love the sequel to Blood Heir. The second book in an epic fantasy series about a princess hiding a dark secret and the con man she must trust to liberate her empire from a dark reign. Ana Mikhailov is the only surviving member of the royal family of Cyrilia. She has no army, no title, and no allies, and now she must find a way to take back the throne or risk the brutal retribution of the empress. Morganya is determined to establish a new world order on the spilled blood of non-Affinites. Ana is certain that Morganya won't stop until she kills them all. Ana's only chance at navigating the dangerous world of her homeland means partnering with Ramson Quicktongue again. But the cunning crime lord has schemes of his own. For Ana to find an army, they must cross the Whitewaves to the impenetrable stone forts of Bregon. Only, no one can be certain what they will find there. A dark power has risen. Will revolution bring peace--or will it only paint the streets in more blood.

Pickpick

When I decided to read part one, I just slowly got back into YA. Therefore, I was surprised to find me liking the book. Now finally book two has been published, and I was sceptical again. Would I remember the characters? Could I deal with the fantastic world Zhao created? Or would I be lost?

Well, I shouldn't have worried. I liked part two even more than the first one! The character development, the fast paced plot, the setting, the fantasy - ⬇

Jari-chan it's all so very well done! Zhao really did a great job here. Even the romantic parts didn't annoy me. Actually, they even touched me! 😱

Can't wait for the big ending now!

I feel like I liked this more than Blood Heir. I was a little bored at times though. I liked the betrayals, secrets, political intrigue, and action. Ana is a great character and I can‘t wait to see what is in store with her.

Pickpick

There are so many things to love about this book. The writing is solid, the world building crisp and lush and the characters, the characters are evocative and are of varying moral hues, just how I like them. Just like book #1, the characters are the main dish. I reccomend this one and think you should give it a shot, cliffy ending be damned! At least it didn't go all George R. R. Martin on us, although it was touch and go there for a while
