Reading on Location
Reading on Location: Great Books Set in Top Travel Destinations | Luisa Moncada
3 posts | 1 read
"Reading on Location is essential for anyone wishing to learn more about a potential destination, wanting to follow in the footsteps of a much loved fictional character or desiring to experience a place through the eyes of a celebrated author or authors. Reading on Location is a country-by-country guide to books set in or about some of the world's most popular places. From the quintessential English city of Bath, featured in Jane Austen's Persuasion, to the colourful South India of Arundhati Roy's The God of Small Things and the Afghanistan of Khaled Hosseini's The Kite Runner, Luisa Moncada and Scala Quin recommend some of the most evocative titles to read in key destinations across the world."--Page 4 of cover.

Look Helen what I couldn‘t resist in my local bookstore. You were right, it is a source of inspiration for #ReadingAsia2021 and #ReadingAfrica2022. So glad I don‘t need to create my own spreadsheet 😉😘

Librarybelle Yay!! 3y
BarbaraBB @squirrelbrain That‘s a hashtag I can use a lot 😉🤍 3y

Spotted this in the library last time I was there. It‘s a list of books (fiction and NF) set in different countries around the world, along with a short summary of each.

The book itself is about 10 years old so a little bit out of date, but still a great resource. I‘ve made spreadsheets (of course I have!) for #readingasia2021 and also for #readingafrica2022, which our esteemed hosts Barbara and Jess now have ready to go next year...

BarbaraBB The spreadsheet you made are incredible! They contain all the books set in a country and make me want to Google them all and start planning #ReadingAfrica2022! This book seems like a must-have too 😻 4y
Librarybelle Agree with @BarbaraBB ! I have some time off in a couple of weeks, so I am looking forward to exploring your spreadsheets! This book looks amazing 😍 4y
Oryx After next year, you must be well on the way to reading every country? That's gotta be next, right? 4y
squirrelbrain Now you‘re giving me ideas @Oryx ! 🤔 However, I‘m not even sure if I‘ll do Africa next year.... 4y

Ahhhhh..... this is one of the things I miss the absolute most. Haven‘t been #readingonlocation for nearly 6 months now 😢

AmyG I know. I don‘t go much of anywhere these days. ☹️ 4y
Soubhiville I know! I miss coffee shop reading! And taking my time browsing bookstores. 😢 Hopefully these are things we‘ll be able to safely do again eventually. ❤️ 4y
Mitch @AmyG we‘re both staying home to minimise the risk to my mum and Mels mum - so kinda feel cut off from the world ( which isn‘t always a bad thing!) 4y

marleed It‘s on my top 5 list of missing things. I do just fine on my own but I do love to be alone amongst people from time to time. 4y
MsMelissa I can‘t read in public. I people watch too much LOL (edited) 4y
