The 46 stories in this collection are as varied as their origins--Poland, Morocco, Yemen, and Spain, to name a few--yet all possess a unifying element: a uniquely Jewish flavor, "an emphasis on doing the right thing, on surviving by cleverness and kindness--and the need for keeping a good sense of humor".

Very interesting read. It's cool to see how the Jewish folktales differ from other more mainstream fairytales. The list of jokes at the end is hilarious!

Belated Fun Friday post! I think my mom first got me this book as a little girl, and I was entranced--world Jewish folktales titled after a protagonist with my name and an awesome trait! :p. No the story, Rachel solves riddles to help the Jews and outwit the king. In this pic, I "cleverly" have my baby sister give me a stroller ride. :p
