I listened to this audiobook courtesy of Netgalley. I quite enjoyed it. It was a nice break when you need a light hearted story to pass the time away. Now some may argue my “lighthearted” story. This is about the sources of light and darkness, good and evil. And It is very literal. The world is dark. No sun, just night. The queen of the night has been “good” to her people or so they think. ⬇

LibrarianRyan But one child achieving womanhood will change all that. This child is the last Sun child. And the only magic being that can truly bring the sun to the dark evil queen‘s land. So much of this book is traveling, or questing to get from one land to another. They have to get out of the dark lands, and into the North where Siria can fully develop her power, find her true family, and help defeat the evil queen Iyzabel. 4y
LibrarianRyan Of course there is a love interest. It wouldn‘t be a YA book without it. And there is fear of doing the right thing, and the awkwardness of “shining you light” to be who you truly are and not just who your parents want you to be. I believe this is a standalone and I am happy with it. It doesn‘t need a sequel, and I‘m not sure I would read one if there was. The story did what it was meant to do, bring light to the darkness. 4y

I've been seriously struggling with this year with YA fantasies. I feel like I'm just rereading the same stories with the same characters. Now I don't think anyone would argue that this book strays from the tried and true structure of YA fantasies but I INHALED this book. It was good enough that even when the main character made some astoundingly stupid decisions that a blind grandmother could see coming...I still enjoyed the book.

I enjoyed the world and the characters. The adventure and journey was well done. I didn‘t like how Siria was able to learn her powers so quickly and easily. Also, I felt like the ending was rushed and that there was more story to be told. #litsy #littens #bookstagram #bibliophile #netgalley

Once upon a time there was something called the sun…

Siria longs to please her distant parents and to be chosen by Queen Iyzabel and move to the Royal City. Siria's whole life is thrown upside down during the choosing ball when unimaginable truths come to light.

Almost straight away we were thrown into the action and the pace never seemed to slow. The chapters were short and I found myself breezing through the pages.

The timing of this readathon is perfect! Finished book 1, My Riot by Rick Spears, last night, and starting the tagged book this morning. I‘m hoping to finish it and one other ebook, as well an audiobook!

I wanted to love this book, I really did. But Siria's fixation on Linden was annoying. I honestly wanted Linden to get lost or die. (I'm not a romantic, okay?) Other than that, it was pretty good. I just wish the author had stuck with the actual plotline instead of having Siria worry only about her relationship with her boyfriend instead of, you know, the fate of the world.

I like this cover so it's simple complexity (oxymoron much). But it is for that reason i also don't like this. It's a YA book, but the cover reads older fantasy reader. It was picked by the Junior Library Guild so it must be good.
