I have no idea when or how this ended up on my Kindle but I wish it hadn‘t. I‘ve read fan fiction that was better written. The characters are basically immature cartoons that act the same at nearly 40 as they did at 18. And there is no subtlety or nuance whatsoever. And yes, I know there are small towns throughout the U.S. where some citizens are virulently homophobic and racist but this was so over the top. 🙄 👇🏼

MicheleinPhilly Example: The protagonist‘s Iranian girlfriend visits and everyone at the party asks her if she is a terrorist. WTF??? The only teensy sliver of redeemability was the woman coming to terms with her lesbianism by realizing she fantasizes a lot about Cate Blanchett. But I‘m mad at the author for including my fantasy wife in this garbage. HARD. PASS. 3y
vivastory Sorry about the bad book, but the last sentence of your review 😂 👍 3y

This is the second LGBTQ book that I have read. As its always been a genre that I‘ve stayed away from. Which I have to say has deprived me of reading some really good books. This books shows you just how peoples prejudices can have such an impact on peoples lives, how they may change who they really are just to be accepted especially in small communities. But having to living the lie isn‘t good for anyone involved.
My Rating: 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

4 stars.

The story of Nora and Sophie‘s passionate second-chance journey to their happy-ever-after despite small town prejudices and past hurts lends itself highly adaptable to film. All the elements are there: fully fleshed-out characters, complicated relationships, well-described small town setting, timely subjects, and involving storytelling.

Complete review is on my blog Carpe Diem Chronicles.

Mehso-so

I don't read much Sapphic and I've been actively trying to read more, so winning this second chance Sapphic romance seemed to be stars aligning.
But, I didn't like it. There were some aspects I found interesting, but there was SO much cheating in here that I wasn't too keen on and I just did not like Sophie. (cont.)

night_shift Both main characters had their faults and grew throughout the course of the book, but Sophie just grated on my nerves as did her and Nora's near constant arguing. I liked all the small town, central Texas vibes and definately felt for the plight of coming out and being true to yourself in that kind of environment (I grew up in TX after all), but was not convinced by their relationship and really could've done away with that plot thread. 4y
