I don‘t know if I‘ll ever manage to finish this book. I found it so boring and that I was constantly waiting for something to happen when it never did. It‘s very descriptive which can be nice but I did miss an interesting story progression to accompany that. It‘s a fairly short read so I might push through to the end one day but for now it‘s the book I read to help me fall asleep!

While I enjoyed the writing, the characters, and the settings in this book, it was often hard to tell what was going on. It highlights a lot of modern-day angst (conspiracy theories, elder care responsibilities, economic and political uncertainty), but too much of the action in the book was murky at best.

The two main characters in this year's Goldsmiths Prize winner are Shaw, who appears to be recovering from some kind of existential crisis or breakdown, and Victoria, with whom he has an odd, on-off affair. There is some never-quite-defined conspiracy theory going around which hints at the existence of some weird new fish-like variant of humanity and involves The Water Babies. Very odd but it does contain some wonderful writing.

#buddyread with @DuckOfDoom @Maike and @scripturient - - - Weird book, needs a lot of attention. I noticed myself skimming half a page and boom! missed an as of yet seemingly important detail.

I just finished the first part of my #buddyread with @julesG @Maike and @DuckOfDoom - what the heck am I reading here? This book is so darn weird! 😂

It's raining, it's pouring...

We are staying in this afternoon, obviously. Originally we wanted to go for an easy hike, but neither of us is willing to get wet down to our unmentionables. 😁

Means I'm forced to drink tea and read. 🥳
