The ideas presented in this latest book can actually be applied to all of our relationships, as it will help us in many circumstances to be able to calm down, have empathy for another person, and then communicate in a constructive way about our concerns and proposed solutions. What works to help children learn and behave better might also help our worlds leaders and large groups of people get along better, as many of us adults failed to develop these mindsight skills as we were growing up and we tend to sabotage our relationships with others as a result. Whether you are a parent, a teacher, or just a person who wishes to learn to get along better with others, you may find some valuable insights in No-Drama Discipline.Examiner.com Wow! This book grabbed me from the very first page and did not let go. Daniel Siegel and Tina Payne Bryson explain extremely well why punishment is a dead-end strategy. Then they describe what to do instead. By making the latest breakthroughs in brain science accessible to any parent, they show why empathy and connection are the royal road to cooperation, discipline, and family harmony.Lawrence J. Begin with the end in mind. Why do we discipline our children? Is our goal to punish or to teach them the skills they need to be safe, kind, and successful humans?

Ok, so does anyone else have crippling self doubt when it comes to how to raise their kids and ends up ordering loads of self help books looking for the secret to parenting...anyone?? 😬🙋‍♀️ (just realised this doesn‘t include the pile upstairs!) #babies #ayupaugust

squirrelbrain I‘m like that about everything so I dread to think what I‘d be like if I had kids! 😬 5y
Gina You've got this. I have teenagers now and my deep love and follow through seemed to work. But we are all different and no one strategy is the magic bullet. I did what I felt was right and turned down the sound on those around me who "knew better" 5y
Gina This btw is my go to book I recommend for this topic 5y

Caroline2 @Gina oh thanks for the recommendation! Stacked! 👍🏻 5y
Caroline2 @squirrelbrain I‘m such an over thinker!! 😆 and I seriously suffer from imposter syndrome. I still sometimes wonder if their real mum is gonna walk down the road and demand to know what the hell I think I‘m doing!! 🤪 5y
squirrelbrain Awww you poor thing! You‘re such a lovely person I just know you‘re a fab mum! But I get you on the overthinking and the imposter syndrome.... My husband says he‘s going to get me a t shirt made that says ‘But, what if...?‘ I worry if I don‘t have anything to worry about 🤣 5y
Centique I read “How to listen so kids will talk” and it was a real help over the last few years. I think reading books to get ideas about raising your kids is excellent. Having a strategy helps so much when you‘re feeling a bit lost. Just remember none of us are perfect - and it‘s ok. You‘re obviously thoughtful about parenting which is the best you can be I reckon 💕💕 5y
Caroline2 @squirrelbrain Thanks Hun! 😘 and YES I need that shirt too! 😂 5y
Caroline2 @Centique Thank you! We all try our best, don‘t we. Good to know the book is good, I haven‘t got to that one yet so I‘ll move it up the pile. 👍🏻 5y
TrishB I never read a single one!! But that‘s probably not a good recommendation either, maybe I should have 🤷‍♀️ I talked to my friends a lot - most had similar age kids and we muddled along. I think what I learned is that none of us were perfect or our kids. You‘re doing a fab job 😘 5y
Caroline2 @TrishB Thanks Trish. Yeah I‘m prob over thinking it. We‘re all in the trenches together and doing the best we can with what we‘ve got!! 😉 5y
fybawksheyk I definitely do this. I had a rough week or two with my 3 and 5 year olds, so I picked up “How to Talk So Kids Will Listen...” and No-Drama Discipline. “How to Talk...” was really beneficial, and No-Drama Discipline I‘m still working through. You got this! 5y
Caroline2 @fybawksheyk oh good to know, I haven‘t read either of them yet. I‘m currently working through The Silent Guides and it is sooo good! It makes you think of things from their perspective based on their development for their age etc. I‘m finding it really useful. 👍🏻 5y
fybawksheyk @Caroline2 consider that one added to my list! 😊 5y

Wow! As I read this book for my own personal use as the mother of a soon-to-be toddler, I am finding so many nuggets that apply to me as a teacher librarian of Kindergarten- 8th grade students. Seeking “first to understand” this upcoming year school year is my goal.

He is sweet and silly and 21 months old today but soon we will be in for those volatile boundary pushing years of 2-4...or 2-40 in some cases. 🤣 I want to be a responsive and proactive mom and teacher not a reactive mom that yells first and asks why later. Great book study for me and the hubbs.

2.5? This book is not worth $13. Its just not. It repeats itself so much I literally skipped over 2/3 of it because it had already been said before on the previous page. Forget if you've already read their first book. The number of times they go on for pages all to say some variation of "in other words" and then sum it up effectively in a sentence made me think of Hume's writing. ?
??????????????????

GingerAntics Honestly, this is all based off of one part of the first chapter of their first book "The Whole-Brain Child." This would be so much better as an additional chapter or two in that book and just move on. This was not worth the price of an additional book. There isn't enough material for a stand alone book. Its good information and just what I was looking for, but it didn't need a whole book on it's own. ?????? (edited) 6y
GingerAntics I think the whole thing would make more sense in conjunction with the other book, as well, instead of covering information from that book in this one, haphazardly. 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻 (edited) 6y
GingerAntics Unfortunately my high hopes for this book were completely dashed. Read the first book and then get the refrigerator cheat sheet for the discipline side of it off the website for free. #nodramadiscipline #danielsiegel #tinapaynebryson #nanowrimo #research (edited) 6y

This book has epicly long chapters 40-50+ pages each. I can't imagine what this book is like in print. The first two chapters (what I've read so far) really haven't needed to be quite as long as they have been. They repeat themselves a lot. Good thing I'm not planning on having this thing finished by 1 November.

Oh my God these people get my snarky personality...or they're serious. If I'm ever a parent I'm going to be total shite. "You know what, mummy needs a minute. I'm going to be in my calm zone with some wine. I'll be back. Try not to kill each other until I get back." #nodramadiscipline #danielsiegel #tinapaynebryson

Reading the companion to the book I finished yesterday. I can start my story without this, but I'm going to need it eventually so might as well get started.

Usually parenting books make me depressed or mildly panicky. The Whole-Brain Child actually made me feel good, so I have high hopes for this one.

Great! One of my rare forays into non fiction rather than escaping into a novel
