Book 26 of 2021. Sooo good! This wasn‘t quite as heavy as Dear Martin or Dear Justyce (there was an element of romance), but it was a commentary on socioeconomic status and how it affects children and young adults. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This book shows the struggles of a poor teen Rico. She works at a gas station and on Christmas Eve the station sales the winning ticket for the jackpot. When the person that brought the winning ticket never steps forward Rico thinks she knows who brought the ticket and sets out to find them. When Zan steps into help her she founds herself liking him more and more. Little does she know she is completely wrong who has the winning ticket!
This book is so honest about the struggles of a poor family... that's what made this book so intriguing for me. Rico's struggles to provide with her family and their sacrifices really hit hard. I admire how the author wrote about it! There was no big romance to talk about but a really good friendship which made it up to me. The ending was kinda predictable and kinda unpredictable... if you don't know what I mean you gotta read for yourself 😇
