This short-story collection does a gut-wrenching job of depicting the reality and violence that people of color face in Brazil. It focuses mostly on women. All I can say is that it's not a light read. Conceição Evaristo feels no need to sugar-coat and her writings feels both raw and beautiful. At times these stories broke my heart and made my blood boil. Still, it ends on a much needed hopeful tone.
