Chance doesn‘t bring these two together until the very end of the book, which I found odd because it‘s written on the back of the book. The ending is abrupt.

This author is quickly becoming a favorite. His writing is just amazing. Loved this dark story of addiction and redemption.
It seems odd to say I enjoyed this novel, which is set in North Carolina and told from several perspectives, as it‘s full of pain and heartache, but I did. Ray is the father of an addict, who is pushed to take action. Denny, another addict, has to make a choice. An undercover DEA agent and his handler are trying to make an interstate drug case. This novel is a slow burn until all three story lines collide. #Booked2021 #appalachiannoir

Won this book in a giveaway, kind of out of my comfort zone, but it's a really good book about drugs, what they do to people, and taking down the bad guy.
What an absorbing novel. Explores the changing culture in the North Carolina mountains. The void and instability in both the tribal nation and the hollers. The flow of drugs imprisoning those who didn‘t have the resilience to leave or find a new way in a changed land. Excellent character development carries the reader well. Gripping!
I loved it. Great writing. For the most part, it takes place in my hometown, Cherokee. It is full of truths that some on the rez won't like, but it is something that is rampant everywhere. I could see many people I know in the character descriptions. It describes things, places, & people on the rez that the tourists don't see or want to see. It is a heartbreaking & truthful story, but great writing tends to do that. I highly recommend this book.
Really good so far. My heart breaks for this dude dealing with his son‘s heroin addiction. Intimate look at what I would imagine many know to be the truth of how it is to be at the end of your damn rope, even with your own child. 2 other stories happening too so I‘m sure it all gets weaved together. Love books that do that. This was recommended based on my liking “Devil All the Time” similar feel. Definitely gritty.
