How do you go with reading series? Or keeping up with series? I think I‘m better at it than I give myself for - but once I‘ve lost the thread of the story, I find it really hard to go back...

These are all book 3 - and I‘ve read all but two of them!

julesG I tend to just dive into the next book of a series. In most cases some of the previous plot is summarised. Or it'll resurface in my memory while reading the first few chapters 5y

Crazeedi Like @julesG says. Series are my absolute favorite reads. Even if I've had a long break, I just go on to the next and details usually comes back. I really never reread 5y

thegirlwiththelibrarybag @julesG, I‘ve been burned by authors with inconsistent publishing schedules. Most details come back but sometimes I‘ve just lost interest or motivation to continue. 5y

thegirlwiththelibrarybag @Crazeedi, I love a reread - but often rereading a whole series seems like such a mammoth task that I only think about it 😉 5y

candority I try to wait until a whole series is published before I start reading it, so I can read them all back to back. When I can‘t resist (or when I don‘t even realize that it‘s going to be a series), I find summaries of the previous book online and refresh my memory before jumping into the new one. 5y

thegirlwiththelibrarybag @candority, a long running series that I‘ve struggled to get back into is The Dresden Files - a whole bunch were already published when I started - & then it was a book a year and then radio silence for 5 and then 2 books in the same year. I know I read the last book - but the first few chapters in the new book referred back to all sorts of things I had no memory of. in this case reviews didn‘t help - but they often would. Thanks for your advice. 5y

thegirlwiththelibrarybag @julesG, I‘ve never read him because he seemed like he‘d take forever to release the next book. At this point - I probably won‘t read him. I‘ve been waiting since 2003 for Isobelle Carmody to release the final Legendsong book. I only remember the plot outline at this point - but refuse to reread until I see the published book - but even then - it‘s been so long... do I still care? 5y

I love this series! It combines art with the history of Australia - in particular how Colonial/White Australia has impacted not only on the land but also the Aboriginal people. The main story involves Alex coming to a wealthy farming household to value some painting but before you know it - the patriarch is dead, a toddler goes missing as does the most valuable painting... all in all an excellent mystery! Can‘t wait for #4!
